  6.     intensive high power computer
  7.   symposium for all computer freaks
  8.  
  9. ±22General Info:
  10. ±41This   information   leaflet   is  the
  11. Official  Information  Leaflet  to The
  12. Gathering  1994.   Inside  you  should
  13. find everything you need to know.  The
  14. information  inside  has been compiled
  15. from  ideas  and  suggestions from The
  16. Gathering   1994   conference  at  The
  17. Crusaders  BBS,  and  experiences from
  18. the  two  previous Gatherings.  You do
  19. not  need  this  or  any other kind of
  20. invitation  to  attend  The Gathering.
  21. Anyone  with  a  genuine  interest  in
  22. computers are welcome!
  23.  
  24. ±22Entrance fees:
  25. ±41Europeans:    ±43               NOK 200.-
  26. ±41Non-Europeans and girls: ±43        FREE!

  28. ±22Rykkinnhallen:
  29. ±41The Gathering 1994 will not be held at
  30. Skedsmohallen.  Instead we have chosen
  31. Rykkinnhallen  which  is  a  brand new
  32. sports   hall   located   just  a  few
  33. kilometers   south   west   of   Oslo,
  34. Norway's  capitol.  One of the reasons
  35. this  hall  was  chosen  is that it is
  36. made up of two halls.  If you like the
  37. real  party  feeling,  grab a table in
  38. the  large  hall.   If you like things
  39. quiet,  grab  a  table  in the smaller
  40. hall.    The   total  available  space
  41. around the complex is around 4500m2.
  42.  
  43. ±22Reservations:
  44. ±41Since  we  excpect the available space
  45. to  be limited, you will unfortunately
  46. not  be  able to reserve space for you
  47. or  your  group at The Gathering 1994.
  48. Instead  we  will give away seats on a
  49. first-come- first-served basis.
  50.  
  51. ±22Rooms for rent:
  52. ±41Rykkinnhallen  has four separate rooms
  53. with  two beds and shower for those of
  54. you  who  really  need  a  good nights
  55. sleep.    The   rooms   are  primarily
  56. intended  for  bus  drivers and so on,
  57. and  the price per room is 200 NOK per
  58. 24hrs.    If  you  are  interested  in
  59. renting  a  room,  you  will  have  to
  60. contact  Dr.   Outtasight  immediately
  61. and  order  it.  We also expect you to
  62. pay for the room in advance.
  63.  
  64. ±22Sleeping Area:
  65. ±41The  sleeping  area  is  made  up of a
  66. cluster  of  large  lockers, each with
  67. toilets  and showers.  The lockers are
  68. of course located in the same building
  69. as  the  main hall, but any noise from
  70. the  main hall should not disturb you.
  71. The  space  is  limited and we will be
  72. using additional rooms for sleeping if
  73. necessary.

  75. ±22Electricity:
  76. ±41Anyone  who visited The Gathering 1993
  77. knows  that  the  electrical system of
  78. Skedsmohallen did not manage all those
  79. devices.   This  is  also  one  of the
  80. reasons  we  have  chosen another hall
  81. this  year.   Since  420  Amperes  was
  82. inadequate  at  The Gathering 1993, we
  83. now have a total of 1400A.
  84.  
  85. ±22No kitchen appliances, please!
  86. ±41For  obvious  reasons  you will not be
  87. allowed to plug any electrical kitchen
  88. appliances  you  might  bring,  to the
  89. ordinary  electrical system.  A fridge
  90. pull  enough  power  to  feed around 5
  91. computers,  and a microwave pulls more
  92. than   10.    Also,  a  fridge  and  a
  93. microwave    both    generate    nasty
  94. electrical  surges  on  the  net which
  95. might  blow your computer hardware.  A
  96. small number of people will however be
  97. allowed    to   use   their   fridges,
  98. microwaves  and  ovens  on  a  special
  99. circuit  set aside for this - and only
  100. this       -      again      on      a
  101. first-come-first-served basis.
  102.  
  103. ±22Audio/Visual Equipment:
  104. ±41The  audio and visual equipment is one
  105. of  the  most  important  parts  of an
  106. arrangement  like  this.  Delivering a
  107. perfect  picture  to over 2000 persons
  108. is  very difficult, and multiple video
  109. projectors    and   an   internal   TV
  110. transmitter   will   ensure  that  the
  111. availability  is  more  than adequate.
  112. The  sound  system  will be made up of
  113. the existing 6000 Watts system already
  114. installed  in  the hall, plus a set of
  115. subwoofers.   The  existing  system is
  116. mounted   in  the  ceiling,  and  will
  117. therefor  give  you excellent sound no
  118. matter where you are sitting.
  119.  
  120. ±22Internal TV and Information System:
  121. ±41The Internal TV and Information System
  122. will be used for broadcasting messages
  123. and  information to you.  If you bring
  124. your   portable  TV  set  or  a  video
  125. machine  with  a receiver, you will be
  126. able   to   receive  this  information
  127. together  with  live coverage and much
  128. more.   The TV transmitter is based on
  129. a  professional  model  with a special
  130. aerial  that  gives  complete coverage
  131. anywhere    in   the   hall,   without
  132. disturbing anyone outside it.

  134. ±22Video Room:
  135. ±41One   of   the  most  popular  leisure
  136. activities  at  The  Gathering  is  of
  137. course  the  video  watching.  We will
  138. run the same system as last year, with
  139. a  6m2  screen and a six speaker Dolby
  140. surround sound system.  The video room
  141. has  no  windows,  so  movies  will be
  142. shown  around the clock.  You will not
  143. be  allowed  inside  once  a movie has
  144. started.
  145.  
  146. ±22Arcades:
  147. ±41The  Gathering  1993  featured some of
  148. the  most  excellent arcades, like the
  149. fabulous   AirHockey.   The  Gathering
  150. 1994  will of course also feature this
  151. together  with  the  usual  amount  of
  152. pinball machines and video games.
  153.  
  154. ±22Official Party BBS:
  155. ±41Most  people  feel  that  no  party is
  156. complete  without  a party BBS system.
  157. At  The Gathering 1994 a team from SSD
  158. will be running the official party BBS
  159. on  an  Amiga  A4000.  The system will
  160. feature  eight  nodes, where three are
  161. reserved  for SSD and the rest will be
  162. open  to  the  public.   One node will
  163. most  likely  be  available  through a
  164. dial-up  modem.  Unfortunately we were
  165. not  able  to  include  the number for
  166. this  node in this information leaflet
  167. before  it  was  printed.   The number
  168. should  be  available at the Crusaders
  169. BBS or at The Gathering 1994 FTP site.

  171. ±22Party Network:
  172. ±41In  addition to the party BBS, we will
  173. also  install  a  party  network.  The
  174. network is made up of one large Novell
  175. NetWare  3.11  server.   If  you bring
  176. your  NetWare  3.11  compatible server
  177. system,  we  will  hook  it  up to the
  178. party network.  If you have a computer
  179. with  an  Ethernet  compatible adapter
  180. with   either  coax  or  twisted  pair
  181. connector,   you  should  be  able  to
  182. connect to the network easily.

  184. ±43Both  the  party  BBS  and  the  party
  185. network will contain party releases as
  186. soon as they become available.

  188. ±22Cafeteria:
  189. ±41After  getting  some  complaints about
  190. the  lack  of  variations  in the food
  191. available  at  The  Gathering 1993, we
  192. decided   to   hire   a   professional
  193. catering  firm.  They will have around
  194. the  clock  service  in the cafeteria.
  195. Instead of having just pizza five days
  196. in  a  row,  they  will  offer you one
  197. different  main  course  every  day in
  198. addition  to  pizza,  fries,  hotdogs,
  199. burgers,  softdrinks and other snacks.
  200. All this at a resonable price.
